Visual Athletics, Abstracts and More

Artist’s Statement
Visual Athletics…
Aerials, Abstracts …and More
In the blink of an eye, it’s gone… But, a “visual athlete”, an artist primed to “see” instantly into a super-transitory realm, can grab it from time, as their personal artistic expression, reinvent it into an artistic medium such as a photographic print and freeze it for all of us to enjoy.
Many of the images will be printed on fabrics. This recent exciting discovery has opened up new doors and given a new look and feel to creating very special works with a unique tactile sensuousness not possible with conventional substrates. Some of these fabrics are even useable as fashions or other sew-able products. Also some examples of prints on a new line of “metallic” paper will be on display.
At this point in my career, and after working with so many painters who work in so many styles to create their limited edition prints, I have come to the idea of expanding my vision to include a broader expression, through revealing the “abstract” in all that’s around us. Like Miksang meditation this is a way for me to show to others the results of my meditation on my subjects. Unlike that practice, I have chosen to do a lot of my contemplation after the fact in the digital realm to include a broader concept of how things should look than the “natural scene” of Ansel Adams, who I have revered as a role model for so long. Yet, I have not denied that influence or “moved on”, rather, I try to be true to my feelings in the moment and aspire to be a real “visual athlete”.
My special thinks to Sharon LoMonaco of the River Run Gallery for her incredible fabric design sense and unsurpassed sewing abilities, without which this show would not be possible.

In this exhibition, I am showing this athleticism of seeing to present my unique look at how photographing from the air shows man’s effect on the environment and makes it become abstract. I will also present various other work that transforms the “real” into conceptual abstractions taking the chaos around us and transforming it into an essence of beauty and wonder.
